A few quick FAQ's. I'll add more as questions arise.

Do you handle sites that are not author-based?

I sure do! In addition to maintaining sites for authors, I have sites revolving around other creative pursuits, such as photography, custom knitting and embroidery, and some non-artistic, community-based service sites.

Will you write my newsletters for me?

I can convert your newsletter to html, upload it to a service along with your contact list, and schedule it to go out when you want. But write it for you? I'd rather pull teeth. However, I know another author who might be interested. Contact me, and I'll ask her. And please check the stipulations on the Price List re: the newsletter service's consent policy.

My web host usually does my updates for me, but they're swamped right now. Will you take on a small job, and can you get to it soon?

I generally get updates done within 48 hours. Sometimes the same day. It all depends on how many are in the queue before you. I'll tell you when you contact me. Also, you will need to have access to ftp, login, and password information. Your host can give you that.

I'd like to hire you to design my web site, but my new host is offering me a deal on registering my domain name with them.

There's nothing wrong with that....IF.... You knew there'd be an if, right? Take the deal, IF your new host will give you the location of your new registrar, as well as login and password information to your account with that registrar. All authors should have that information, as well as ftp, login, and password information to their own sites. What if your host's servers go down? What if they work alone, operate off their kitchen table, and disappear overnight? It's happened! I give all that data to my clients from the get-go. You work hard to establish your reputation on every book cover; you don't want to lose control of your name on the internet. If your new host balks at this, then you or I can register your domain name at a separate registrar, where you will always have control over it. Hosts don't care if your domain is already registered; they'll take you on regardless because then you will be paying them regularly.

Where do you register domain names?

Personally? I use www.000domainnames.com. I've used them for years without any problems.

Do you add holiday decorations to web sites? It's not on your price list.

No problem. I have some holiday graphics you may choose from, you can send me some of your own, or you can just give me a general idea of what you want and let me choose. It would be a simple time charge.

How come you can stop email spam and other places can't?

Let me perfectly clear on this. I can put a custom contact form on your page. Visitors fill it out, type in the Image Verification code, and hit Send. From there, it goes through a service. Your email address is not listed anywhere on the page, not even in the code. Email address harvesters have nothing to find, so they move on to easier prey. This will not stop spam from anywhere else you happen to have your email address on the internet; just from the Contact form on your site. There's a one-time set up fee on my price list, no additional charges unless you decide to change the form.

Did you design your own author page?

Yes. The header and footer are original oils, one of a kind, something you won't see anywhere else. If I get the time, I'd like to offer more original oils and watercolors to clients. So if you're interested and I don't have a portfolio up on this site yet, just ask me.

I just got a new computer and monitor. Why does my page look so horrible?? What would it take to fix it?

Most author sites were not designed for Windows 7 and/or the wider monitors that we're going to. Even though you're using the same browser, it's different, isn't it? Kind of all scrunched up. Well, some of that is an optical illusion due to the wider monitor, but not all of it. Yes, I can redo the code to allow your page to stretch. Check out my author site and see how the text area widens and narrows depending on how large a window you have open. That's what you want a site to do.

My page looks fine in Firefox, but totally different in Internet Explorer. Not quite right. Can you fix that?

It's usually a simple fix. Send me the url of your site. I can take a quick look at the code and give you an idea how long it will take me to set it right. It's always more time consuming to fix someone else's work, especially if it's outdated. I'll be upfront with you on that. It's good if your site has a Cascading Style Sheet. If not, consider updating the whole site with one. It will pay off in the long run by cutting a lot of the time it takes to do updates.
